no... not only because of that. though they were the first to use common rail engines... I think that Elasis center IS one of Fiat's RD facilities! that is why you can see news starting with "The Fiat engineers of the ELASIS Centre of Pomigliano, in the Naples area, will elaborate..." from time to ime.

and patent was not given to Bosh, they sold it to them... at least I think, its more than 10 years since then....

well, then you really have to do yout homework better..through the history, italian cars have always been technically advanced and inovative...

My point is: the examples you give are are mostly things in conjunction with "sweet sounding engines". Mechanical stuff and prestanda.
When it comes to "soft" values apart from styling, such as ergonomics, safety, environmental issues et cetera, they are not pioneers.

And changing from sweet sounding otto and diesel engines is about environment. It's obvious from the comments here that Alfa-fans are not very keen on hybrids and other sissy stuff

No I don't like sissy stuff

For the future I also don't like fuel-cell cars, I want combustion engines running on hydrogen (like BMW has under development) I want to feel and hear the engine running!

Hasn't all Southern European countries used a lot of diesel engines for a long time?

First car with a direct injected diesel engine? Fiat Croma! First car with a common rail diesel engine? Alfa 156!

And indeed, they haven't given it to Bosch, they've sold is because they needed money!

When I say "Hybrid", I don't mean hydrogen powered engine:
I mean potrol engine plus an electric one.

In this way, the pleasure of driving is not compromised and performances increas.
It is a tested solution (consider Toyota Prius, Lexus RX 400...) and I think it doesn't struggle with the Great Alfa Tradition!
